Why Trueinvivo micro silica beads?
Trueinvivo’s CTO, Dr. Shakardokht Jafari, discovered the excellent properties of glass bead detectors for measuring radiation during her PhD at the University of Surrey in England. Shakar continues to work in research and supervises research/PhD students internationally. She also works in radiotherapy as a clinical scientist. Trueinvivo was formed to provide high performance calibrated micro silica beads and bead arrays (and readers soon) to help people worldwide.

Micro silica bead TLD array
A unique high performance thermoluminescent detector array consisting of 100+ small (1mm) microsilica TLDs packed together on a wire which can be pre-inserted in a normal catheter for high resolution in-vivo dose profile measurements. The TLDs are chemically inert and ideal for disposable or repeated use. Once the TLD array is removed from the patient, the radiation levels and spread will be able to be measured by our fully automated high-performance thermo-luminescent reader. The results will be ready, typically, after 15 minutes, and are a unique “radiation ruler” or profile of radiation measurements along or across the tumour area and beyond.
Bead Specification
TrueInvivo™ Microsilica Bead Thermoluminescent Dosimetry Material consists of Silicon Oxide. It is suitable for medical physics, research, and industrial dosimetry applications that use X, γ, β, proton and neutron radiations.
Product Size | 1mm/2mm/3mm |
Accuracy | Calibrated and screened TLDs, ±3% (k=2)
Un-calibrated TLDs, ±8% (k=2) |
Description | Spherical bead with a hole in the middle, capable of arrangement in 2 or 3 dimensions |
Material | Silicon dioxide (SiO2:Na. Ca. Al. K) |
Measurement Ranges | 1mGy to 100Gy (not yet tested for higher doses) |
Product features
High spatial resolution 1-3 mm
Accurate and precise ± 1.7%
Linear response over wide dynamic range 1mGy to 100 Gy (not yet tested for higher doses)
No dose rate dependency
No directional dependency
Non-hygroscopic/ inert nature
Suitable for use in aqueous environment e.g. in vivo situations/in the water tanks
Readout and handling convenience
Small spherical shape with hole in the middle enables the TLDs to be threaded on a piece of wire and keep the sequence of TLDs during readout and annealing. A holder tray is not required! A vacuum tweezer is not required as the TLD can be easily handled using plastic/metallic tweezers.
Reusable
Robust
Can be used in extreme conditions of humidity and temperature
